“Canadian Festival of Spoken Word” Poetry Slam Finals at Coconut Grove, October 13, 2007 (Live painting on stage, 3.5 hr session. SOLD.) - Acrylic on 16″x20″ canvas.
I had a chance to paint live at the Canadian Festival of Spoken Word. I made it out to the final night at Coconut Grove for the poetry slam finals on Saturday night. It was a packed house… standing room only. I sat on the stage floor behind my easel, looking up at the poets… some of the best spoken word artists from across Canada…. under dramatic stage lighting in front of a crowded bar. Fantastic.
Me… stumbling around with my easel at Coconut Grove after auctioning off the completed live painting. [I'm the one in the weird coat.]
Congrats to the Word Iz Bond crew for your compelling words as usual, and thank you to all the Canadian spoken word artists who traveled all the way to the east coast to say your piece/peace. I enjoyed painting you.
The event was hosted by comedian Candy Palmeter of The Candy Show. Thanks for making us laugh!
I’ll be back at Ginger’s Tavern next month for the next “Speak” by Word Iz Bond. (Every third Thursday at 9pm)
[I'm seeing such interesting dramatic lighting effects coming through in my live works now. There's much to be said for learning to paint by candlelight that I couldn't think to appreciate before. I want to continue showing up and painting more to see where my work goes next.]
Cheers,
Sharon

Hello Sharon
I think this painting is magnificent. I am looking for images to use on the leaflet I am designing for a ‘Wor Poets’ (a multi-cultural performance poetry troupe based in the NorthEast of England) and this looks ideal. I am writing to ask for permission to use it….I see that you said it was auctioned off, but I am wondering if you can still give permission (if you are so inclined) for us to use it?
Cheers
