“Speak!” – Live Painting at Ginger’s Tavern (3 hr). 16″x20″. Acrylic on stretched canvas. 2007. SOLD
I have really enjoyed doing live paintings at Ginger’s during Word Iz Bond. This one is from a few days ago on Thursday. I sat at a different spot in the bar this time, trying to get a different angle. I turned the canvas to portrait, rather than landscape. I had some light from the bar itself where beer was being served, and had my trusty candle by my paints to help me figure out which colour was which.
(It’s a delight getting on stage and seeing these pieces for the first time in full light. It’s a surprise to me as much as the audience.)
Do you know that under candle light, cobalt blue and forest green look exactly the same? Dark purple and black… the same. Yellow, white, pink… in low light you can’t tell which is which… until you hold a candle over the label on each paint tube and try to read what it says.
I like the colours in this one.
Someone snapped photos of me while I was painting this piece and sent them to me. Thank you and cheers!
